Company Description

We are a Cambridge-based web startup founded by two recent Harvard graduates. Our site, which aims to revolutionize college travel, is still in development but recently took top prize in a major competition for Harvard entrepreneurs. We are assembling an in-house team to complete development this summer (in time for launch on college campuses in the fall).

Job description

We are looking to recruit one or two exceptional web developers to join our team full-time for the summer, beginning June 1st and lasting at least 10 weeks. As an integral member of our team, you will be a full-fledged partner in this exciting endeavor.

Our team’s developers are responsible for translating wireframes and outlines into a fully-functioning website. As we launch v. 2.0 over the summer, considerable attention will be spent toward implementing new functionality, inventing a new user interface, and seamless integrating social networking sites like Facebook. This will require expert and creative programming on the front and back ends, though developers may be able to direct the outsourcing of certain tasks (possibly including graphic design) to specialists.

Free housing (shared with the founders) will be provided in a large Harvard Square house, which will also serve as the team’s workspace (in addition to traditional office space on Mt. Auburn Street). Additional forms of compensation will be provided, as described below. Work weeks will be deadline-driven and generally range from 45 to 55 hours.

While our first priority is to develop a game-changing product, we’re also committed to a “work hard, play hard” kind of summer. If you’re ready to work long hours, but are excited by the prospect of bar nights, golf and tennis breaks (no such skills required!), weekend trips to the Cape, etc., then this may be the perfect opportunity for you.

For successful developers, there will likely be an opportunity for full-time or part-time work following the summer.

Required Skills

* Past experience in web development and programming
* Expert knowledge of web application front-end languages (i.e., JavaScript, HTML, CSS, etc.)
* Proficiency in any back-end language (e.g., PHP, AJAX, ASP.NET, ColdFusion, Ruby on Rails)

Additional Skills (preferred but not required):

* Multimedia and graphic design capabilities
* Experience with the Facebook Connect API and Facebook application development

Personal Attributes

* Hard-working, highly motivated, ambitious
* Creative, problem-solver, resourceful
* Great team player

Compensation

Pay package will consist of free housing (with the team in a large Harvard Square house), equity stake, and weekly stipend. Specifics will depend on skill level, experience, and personal preference.

Contact

Interested applicants should email zsmith@fas.harvard.edu with name, contact information, and resume. If you’d like, you can also include references and a link to your portfolio. We will sort through applications and set up interviews on a rolling basis and hope to fill this position quickly (not later than May 10th). We look forward to meeting you!
